Brazil, known for the exuberance of its carnaval, the natural beauty of its landscapes, and the warmth of its people, also is home to a rich diversity of cutures and a wealth of artistic achievements.

We invite you to discover the exotic cultural treasures of São Paulo, a city founded by Portuguese Jesuit priests, settled by people of varied nationalities, and defining itself today as the artistic and commercial center of Brazil. Explore Belo Horizonte, showcase of contemporary Brazilian architecture, and colonial Ouro Prêto, part of UNESCO's "Cultural Patrimony of Mankind." Visit historic gold-mining towns, where exquisite architectural masterpieces recall the glories of bygone eras; captivating colonial cities, overflowing with magnificent Baroque churches and mansions; and colorful villages that once harbored political figures of national heroes. Share the vibrant spirit of the carioca people of Rio de Janeiro, as you savor the arts of one of the worlds most festive and dynamic cities.

During the trip, attend informative presentations on the eclectic traditions of Brazilian art. View works by the country's foremost architects, sculptors, painters, landscape artists, and jewelers at fine museums and art galleries. Meet collectors and professors of art, and visit with outstanding local artists, including Carlos Bracher, Ivan Marquetti, Marly Faro, and Rosangela Rennó. Spectacular folkloric performances and distinctive cuisine reflect the Brazilian flair for enjoyment.

A distinguished study leader will accompany you throughout your journey, sharing her insights and expertise as you discover the cultural resources of this exciting nation. Participants will have the additional opportunity to extend their stay and witness the world-famous Carnival in Rio and its extraordinary "Sambodromo parade," featuring the dazzling productions of the flamboyant samba schools.

We hope that you will join us on this unique opportunity to experience Brazil.
