Q. What are baggage restrictions for international travel? A. It is best to contact your specific carrier for their rules and regulations, however most airlines baggage allowance for coach class is two pieces at 70 pounds each, and no one piece can exceed 62 inches. Airlines also allow one carry on bag with a maximum dimension of 45 inches and maximum weight of 15 pounds, plus a personal item such as a purse, briefcase, backpack or similar. They must fit in the closed overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. Should any of your luggage be larger or weigh more than the above amounts the airline reserves the right to charge an overweight fee and/or check your carry-on bag. Q. How many bags am I allowed to bring on a group tour? A. Depending on the length of the program, the handling of two standard-size suitcases is included throughout your tour, and you will be given two Travel Plans International luggage tags per person. Q. Can I lock my luggage? A. United States federal air regulations state that luggage can no longer be locked and is subject to search by airport security personnel. Please speak to airline personnel if you have further questions regarding this procedure. It is recommended that you bring luggage locks with you and use them while having luggage transferred or when leaving it in your room. Any luggage that is easily accessible is a tempting target.
