In Monticelli, a very small medieval settlement dating back to the early 12th century, the proprietors Giuseppi and Ellen have just completed the magnificent renovation of 12 junior suites and 4 apartments ranging in size from 50 to 150 square meters. The renovation was performed under the protection of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Affairs and has been declared a National Monument, in part because the 12th century chapel of San Paolo is part of the property. The oldest sections of the buildings are composed of three military towers constructed between the 12th and 13th centuries, with walls that are 1.2 meters thick. A beautiful hall with a gothic ceiling dated from the year 1230 is situated on the ground floor of the largest tower. Borgo Monticelli is located on top of an impressive hill, which can be easily seen as one approaches the property because it lies in the middle of a large valley. On the top of the hill there is a plateau, upon which the medieval towers are situated. This offers a wonderful 360-degree view that extends for many kilometers across the beautiful surrounding Umbrian countyside.

The junior suites and apartments are nicer, and the service is much more efficient and friendly, than most of the 4 star hotels in Italy and we have listed this as a Category 3 property for 2006 only because of Giuseppi and Ellen's introductory pricing. We recommend Borgo Monticelli for your vacation, renewal of vows, wedding, and /or honeymoon.
